My Goal – 2 Days Early

When I decided to set my weight loss goal earlier this summer I set my goal for October 4th.  If you didn’t see the first post it sounds like a very arbitrary date, especially considering that it’s a Tuesday and my weekly posts have been on Sundays.  So why did I pick October 4th, it’s my birthday (I’ll be 27) and when I decided that I wanted to be down to a certain weight it seemed like as good of a deadline as any.

So my goal was to get my weight down to 210 pounds by this coming Tuesday.  I’m quite pleased to say that my weight today for my official weekly weigh-in was 209.6 pounds.  While I only post about it one day a week, I do check my weight during the middle of the week and the first day that I was under 210 was last Friday.

While I’ve reached my goal, it doesn’t end here.  I’m quite proud of the fact that I’ve lost some weight, but it’s not enough just to lose it, you have to keep it off or it doesn’t really matter.  I’m not trying to end this series of posts on a bad note, but it’s a realistic way to end it and it’s true that I’ll need to keep watching my weight to avoid letting myself gain weight again.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by here to see how I was doing and providing encouragement.  Here is the final list of my weekly weigh-in since I began keeping track in early July.

My Goal – Week 12

Getting down to crunch time, I’ve got 10 days left, and it’s going to be close.  Most of what I’ve been doing is controlling my diet, which works to a point.  I also think I’ve pretty much hit that point.  For the past several weeks I’ve been hovering between 212 and 216.  This week I’m at 213.6, which is a bit of a backslide from the past couple of weeks.  I’m not terribly upset with this, as much as anything else I’m quite pleased at my progress to this point, I’ve lost about 20 pounds since I started keeping track on my blog and it’s closer to 30 pounds over the course of the summer.  I’m still going to try to reach my goal of 210, and I have my reward (I need a new pair of bowling shoes) planned should I get there in 10 days, if I don’t reach it by that date, I’ll keep going until I do, and wait until Christmas for my bowling shoes.

My Goal – Week 11

Just a couple of weeks left to go before my target date for my goal of getting down to 210.  It seems like it’s gone by pretty quickly, but at the same time I’m really close to reaching my goal.

I’ve said before that I hadn’t really noticed much of a change in how I looked, but I’m at the point where I can see a change.  I’ve even had several other people say that they can see a difference.  I can also tell in large part because a lot of my clothes are much looser than they have been.  Just a couple of pounds to go, and I’ve got a couple of weeks to get there, I think it’ll work out ok.

The weigh in came from earlier today, I had to work this morning instead of my usual Sunday night shift.  Either way, here’s the rundown:

7/10 – 231.2

7/17 – 225.6

7/24 – 224.0

7/31 – 221.6

8/7 – 218.8

8/14 – 215.4

8/21 – 215.4

8/28 – 216.0

9/4 – 213.2

9/11 – 212.6

9/18 – 212.0

My Goal – Week 10

Getting close, just a couple of weeks left and a couple of pounds to go.  Not much to say in this post, I think most of everything I’ve wanted to talk about throughout the course of the rest of the posts.  I can say that over the past week or so I’ve actually relaxed my strict diet that I was using earlier on, but because I started with a very strict diet, even relaxing it a little as I have still means that I’m eating far less than I used to, and really that’s the only way to lose weight, to lower the amount of calories that you’re taking in.

In other notes, I’m going to try and finish up The Road by Cormac McCarthy either later today or possibly tomorrow.  I’ve been playing Final Fantasy 8 recently (and liking the game a lot more than I remember liking it when I first played it years ago) and it’s been taking away some of my reading time, or maybe working and bowling has been taking away my reading time, either way, I haven’t been reading that book quite as much, I’ll finish it over the next couple of days, look for the review Monday or Tuesday.

Time for the official weigh-in for the week:

7/10 – 231.2

7/17 – 225.6

7/24 – 224.0

7/31 – 221.6

8/7 – 218.8

8/14 – 215.4

8/21 – 215.4

8/28 – 216.0

9/4 – 213.2

9/11 – 212.6

My Goal – Week 9

Week 9 of tracking my weight loss goal.  Just a short post today, I’m going in to work at noon and I’d like to read a little bit before I leave.  Not a whole lot to say this week that I haven’t said over the past several weeks.  Although I am getting a little closer to the deadline I set for myself, just 4 weeks left.  I can get there, it’s a short time but I don’t have much farther to go.  Anyway, that’s all for today’s post, I’m off to read.

7/10 – 231.2

7/17 – 225.6

7/24 – 224.0

7/31 – 221.6

My Goal – Week 8

Very quick post this week, I’ve got other things to worry about (see my post yesterday about my job interview in Wisconsin).

Interesting, but stressful week.  The weight check this week was at 216.  This is the first week that my weight has gone up a hair, but again, it’s only up .6 of a pound.  Given all that I’ve had to deal with this week, and the stress from that, I’ll gladly take it.  I’ve seen my weight fluctuate by much more than that over the course of a single day, so if nothing else I’m essentially at a standstill for my weight for the past 3 weeks.  However, my working at the bowling alley is starting to pick up now (leagues are starting up) and I’ll be back to bowling more throughout the week, so I’m not worried about it.  I’ve still got 5 weeks to reach my goal, and I’ll just chalk this week up to one of those little roadblocks towards my goal that I couldn’t have seen coming.

7/10 – 231.2

7/17 – 225.6

7/24 – 224.0

7/31 – 221.6

8/7 – 218.8

8/14 – 215.4

8/21 – 215.4

8/28 – 216.0

My Goal – Week 7

Time for my weekly post about my weight-loss goal.  This is the 7th week of tracking my weight on my blog, and I think that the next two weeks are probably going to be the two hardest weeks of this stretch.  Why?  Simple, I’m not bowling right now (summer leagues ended, winter leagues haven’t started yet) which means I’m also not working at the bowling alley as much, and I also don’t have a full time job yet.  What this all means is that I’m not doing a whole lot right now, which isn’t a good thing.  All said, I ended up with the same weight this week as I had last week.  I’ll take it.  About 6 weeks left, so that works out to losing a little over a pound a week, shouldn’t be too hard.

7/10 – 231.2

7/17 – 225.6

7/27 – 224.0

7/31 – 221.6

8/7 – 218.8

8/14 – 215.4

8/21 – 215.4

My Goal – Week 6

Time for my weekly update on my weight loss goal.  Today I weighed in at 215.4.  This number is kind of significant to me for two reasons: 1, it means I’ve only got 5 more pounds to lose in 7 weeks: and 2, this is the lowest I’ve known my weight to be since my freshman year in college way back in the fall of 2003.  So right now I weigh less than I have at any time since I was about 19 years old, I’ll take it.

Not a whole lot more to add this week, so I’m going to call it a post and go on with the rest of my day, which includes a lot of reading and some bowling later (I need to practice).

7/10 – 231.2

7/17 – 225.6

7/24 – 224.0

7/31 – 221.6

8/7 – 218.8

8/14 – 215.4

My Goal – Week 5

Week 5 of recording my progress towards my weight loss goal.  Up until the time that I write these posts I’m never really sure what I’m going to talk about in them.  It would be fairly easy to to go over the same ideas again that I’ve put in previous posts, but I don’t want to do that every week.  I would get tired of writing the same thing, and I’m sure that everyone who reads my posts would get tired of reading the same thing every week.  So instead this week I’m going to rant against something that irritates me concerning weight loss.

I tend to be a night person, I’m usually up until about 1 or 2 in the morning and I usually wake up around 10 or so.  While I don’t watch nearly as much TV as I used to, I still have the same pet peeve that I’m sure many people do, I hate commercials.  One of the most irritating kinds of commercials for me were all the weight-loss commercials that are on late at night.  One of the things that always bothered me is that every one of the commercials started with the exact same line: “diets don’t work.”

Anyone with half a brain knows that this is BS.  Any time that you reduce your caloric intake you are going to lose weight, it’s that simple.  The problem comes from people who can’t keep on a diet.  There’s a fairly simple reason for this, it’s hard and you’re never going to see quick results.  It’s also a bad thing to lose weight too quickly, because the first thing you’re going to do once you’re off your diet is revert to eating more and gaining weight again.

I’m down about 13 pounds in 5 weeks since I started keeping track on my blog, and about 20 pounds since I started trying to lose weight earlier in the summer (I started at about 240 pounds) and I honestly don’t exercise quite as much as I should.  I do go out and walk/jog a couple of miles anywhere from 1-3 times a week, but not nearly as often as I should.  For me my weight loss has been almost entirely due to my change of diet.  And even though I said earlier that I didn’t want to repeat myself in every post, I’m going to have to repeat one thing here, some advice for anyone who is trying to lose weight: it gets easier, it really does.

Anyway, time for this weeks weigh-in:

7/10 – 231.2

7/17 – 225.6

7/24 – 224.0

7/31 – 221.6

8/7 – 218.8

My Goal – Week 4

Time for my weekly update on my weight loss goal.  In my post last week I commented on the difficulty of trying to lose weight as quickly as I am (I was at 240 earlier in the summer and I’m trying to get to 210 by October).  This week I noticed something else, it’s beginning to get easier.  I’m finding it easier to eat smaller meals and to eat less often.  I’m also getting to the point where I can see that I’ve lost some weight.

I think I mentioned this in an earlier post, but my losing weight is also helping my bowling.  I know I’ve mentioned that my left knee doesn’t hurt as much, and I’ve been bowling a lot better over the past few weeks.  I’ve been able to repeat shots better because I’ve been able to keep my balance better.

My goal for my weight loss is by October 4th (my birthday).  The last Sunday before then is October 2nd, which is 9 weeks away.  As it stands right now, I need to lose a little over 1 pound every week to hit my target weight.  That’s not that bad, and actually less than I’ve been losing each of the past few weeks.  Anyway, that’s enough for this post (I want to get back to reading before I have to go to work later) so here we go for this weeks weigh-in.

7/10 – 231.2

7/17 – 225.6

7/24 – 224.0

7/31 – 221.6
